Several tour busses were parked outside when we arrived and after we paid to enter the grounds we found the place to be appalling, filthy and in disrepair. There was a beautiful large reclining Buddha statue that was completely covered in bird shit, the grounds were covered in more bird shit and trash, the main temple was closed and looked to be equally disgusting inside, and the toilets reaked to high heaven. It was the most horrible temple we had seen anywhere in the country. I was extremely disappointed and upset that it was in such a condition. There were tons of young monks hanging around and throwing rocks at each other, but obviously not doing any chores. It seemed to me more of a money making tourist trap than a respected temple and I was mad that I spent even a measly 70 cents on it. There are several beautiful free temples in the town that should be visited and where your donations might actually go to help the temple.
