Although it is quite expensive (we pad about 80 NZ$ for 2 caves pp.) it is a worthwile experience. Besides the main glowworm cave we visited a smaller cave that had some very nice rock formations. Having been to other caves around the world this small one was definitely worth visiting. The actual glowworm cave has a nice tour, done by one of the guardians of the cave, and our guide was well informed and had some nice jokes to keep it interesting. The actual boatride on which you see the cave is magical because you are completely in the dark and there is no motor on the boat.
The cave is a special place for the Maori people and it is nice to learn something more about it, although for me it felt a little fake and artificial. Perhaps that is because of my ignorance, perhaps it is just a commercial exploitation of their beleifs
