This is such a beautiful place to photograph and experience. But there was one thing which ruined it for me. In most of the touristy places you go in Venice, you get people trying to sell you stuff, but it seemed like every trip to St Mark's Square, I had a guy trying to shove flowers in my hand and make my boyfriend pay for them, and then they don't take no for an answer, you have to literally shout "NO" at them and then just walk away. One time we went there, one of them gave me some pigeon food, so then naturally all the pigeons (don't worry, they're friendly pigeons) flocked onto me while my boyfriend just laughed tried to take a picture of it, then this guy shoved a flower in my hand, then afterwards would not leave us alone for money because I had a picture taken with this stupid flower he forced upon me. He just started shouting "MONEY" at us and wouldn't go away. In the end we just gave him a few euros just to make him leave. (They do this on the Rialto bridge as well). And also you have poor people going around with cups talking at you in Italian, begging for money.
Other than that, it was such a beautiful place, you can't help but take about a thousand pictures of it. It's also fun when it's high tide, as the entire square floods, and if you have wellies or those sexy florescent plastic boots you can buy, it's quite fun to wander around in the water instead of trying your luck on the wooden walkways. Also, make sure you visit at night as well.
