Raised in a Philippine province where Christianity started, this church brought back a lot of childhood memories of my hometown, Cebu. This Spanish colonial structure and its immense historical relevance gave me this sense of being home.
Lately, I've been feeling down and a lot of heaviness in my heart and my visit here has been enlightening and solitary. When I got there, I was glancing at the statue of Mary and Jesus in a grotto in the facade. A lady caretaker was kind enough to direct me to the side entrance to the interior of the building.
As soon as I went in and stepped into this sacred place of worship, instantly I felt a wave of grace and peace. Luckily, I was alone so I got to be in a state of prayer and reflection. This place has been a lovely retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city life.
