We made a wise move during our three days in Venice, and made sure to wander around first, and visit some of the landmarks properly during the latter part of our stay. On our last full day in Venice, we woke up early and made our way straight to St Mark's square. And it was a good job we did - we arrived not long after 8am and there was already a large queue forming right through the square. On such a hot summer day, it was well worth getting up that bit earlier so we could wait in comfort in the shade.
Thankfully it didn't take us too long to reach the basilica's doors once it had opened to the public, and I imagine it would be even more efficient during non-peak times of the year. Regardless, it was lovely to take in the atmosphere in an already bustling early-morning central Venice.
