Railay Beach is an interesting one, to get to it you have to take a less than scenic route through the back of hotels, past low hanging electricity cables and some less appealing development, but when you arrive you are greeted with luxurious sand, clear turquoise water, the majesty of Railay's rising sheer cliffs and a variety of restaurants, hotels and small market stalls.
For me, the only detraction from the beach is that everybody else seems to have discovered it, finding a place to lay your towel down can be somewhat of a challenge and you must be careful to keep an eye on your things and theft is not common place but can happen.
The water is of a very pleasant temperature, both cooling and temperature and should you wish to explore further a range of kayaks and boats are available to take you out beyond the swimming area.
All in all a great place to spend a day swimming, sunbathing and just generally relaxing within the type of environment you come to expect on a main beach such as this.
