The elephants seem to be content, and I didn't see any cruelty being administered, but it's hard to understand all the chains. I went to Pinnawala because I really adore elephants and I wanted to see for myself, the elephants and how they were being cared for. I know there is a problem with some elephants living in the wild with humans and sometimes those animals get mean, so more care needs to be taken with them. I understand that the orphans are cared for here, and protected. But it's kind of difficult to see the chains on some of the babies when they're supposed to be enjoying a bath in the river, or the lone animal chained closely to a tree. This is a visit that is confilicting if you're an elephant lover. I did enjoy watching their interactions while in the river, and the few orphans on display were amazing.
