Take a stroll along the Stradun Placa in the Old city and find at one end, near the Pile gate and Franciscan Monastery, the ancient Onofrio's fountain. It's an elaborate fountain with 16 heads that deliver water that encircles the fountain. The fountain was built in the period from 1440 to 1442 in celebration of the completion of the new waterworks which supplied the city with water from the Dubrovnik River, 12 kilometres away. The fountain has been modified since as the original fountain was damaged when the stone cupola collapsed in the earthquake of 1667. During the day, people will be crowded around it but at night, you can get a great picture in front of it without the crowds. You can also get a good photo from above too as you walk the city walls.
