Located behind one of the ends of the Royal Crescent complex, there is a house museum that is worth checking out, known as No. 1 Royal Crescent.
So what is the Royal Crescent? It is a long semi-circle of wealthy houses, built in the late 18th century, in the shape of a crescent moon, hence the name. Just seeing the unusual architecture of this place, is well-worth the detour. And that part, is free.
As for No. 1 Royal Crescent, this museum is worth checking out for anyone more interested in seeing on what life was like in the 18th century. You go inside, and see a variety of rooms, with period furniture. There are guides in some of the rooms, who will answer any questions you have. There are description handouts in all of them. The handouts are informative, giving background on the individual rooms. Also, you are given a little booklet that can serve as your guide as well.
I ended up skimming through the room, as I was short on time. But I thought it was interesting enough, wishing that I had more time to see this place. Though, I thought museum admission was a bit pricey, but I guess that should not be a surprise, being in such a neighborhood.
Definitely take the detour to see the architecture of the Royal Crescent. If time permits and interested in seeing more, then the museum is worth checking out as well.
