This was a cool outing for a family or individuals. The monument is housed in a big park area where you and your family could fly a kite, kids can run and jump, eat delicious Indonesian food and shop. We visited on Sunday evening and the crowd was large. It was great fun and a nice site for tourist. The market items were reasonably priced (dirt cheap for westerners). I don't think I have ever taken my child somewhere and bought cotton-candy in the States for less than $5-8. Here, I happily purchased cotton-candy for $10,000 Rupiah (less than $1 USD).
The monument is located in the center of the Merdeka Square in Central Jakarta. It symbolizes Indonesia fight for independence from the Dutch.
