Oh how fascinating! Don't just enjoy the history and glitz of moviedom on any visit to Los Angeles - venture out a bit further to Orange County and check out this beautiful old mission. In 1812 the Great Stone Church on the site crumbled in an earthquake; this on its own is worth the visit, but you could easily spend most of a day exploring the Mission itself - the chapel, the quarters, the gardens....and The Swallows, who return every March from Argentina to build their nests. Adult tickets are a mere $9 with audio, well worth every cent. In the town of SJC there are good cafes and restaurants, boutiques and souvenir shops, and a short walk away is Old Town. I recommend booking a room, because once you're here you won't want to leave until you've exhausted all the possibilities!
