I've always wanted to go to Raffles and try the Singapore Sling. This iconic cocktail was invented here 100 years ago this year. Raffles is a beautiful elegant white colonial building and we enjoyed looking at our surroundings as we made our way to the Long Bar.
We sat at a small table rather than at the bar itself. The colonial decor takes you back in time, with deep cane chairs, dark wooden tables, tiled floor and slow ceiling fans creating a wonderful ambience in this historic bar.
Our biggest decision was what Sling to order - I chose the original and my partner went with the Summer Sling. There was a large bag of nuts on the table and it was fun to snap their shells and toss them onto the floor, the only place where you can litter in Singapore.
When the cocktails arrived in their tall glasses they looked delicious. They also tasted good, but at $28 Singapore dollars each, with $12 splashed out for a tiny bowl of fries, we savoured every mouthful and this was very much a one drink stop.
An absolute must if visiting Singapore and we enjoyed partaking of this ritual. The experience didn't disappoint.
