Disappointingly, this grand castle has been over-modernised and fitted with additional fixtures that do not fit with the castle's design or appearance. Examples of this include the enormous steel and concrete staircase that descends into the lower level of the courtyard - a simple, small wooden or simpler concrete staircase would have done the job but instead they've gone for something tacky, clashing with the rest of the castle. Also rather disappointing was the apparent substitution of any information of the castle's history with flashy, lit-up electronic displays giving the history of the prison. The prison section of the castle ended up being my highlight as there was a comprehensive overview of its history, and with free entry to this part it was much more enticing than paying for a virtual tour of the castle.
Basically, if you are in Ljubljana with some time I would recommend a trip to this castle if only for the views, but it isn't a patch on the few other other castles to which I've been.
