You can see it all

I found the monument / space very touching. So little has changed in the landscape that you can invision the events. The rangers story helped set the scene and the plaques along the trail make everything come to life.

Well worth a stop

It is awesome and important to experience this site, especially at $10 per vehicle. Take the time to view the video and listen to a ranger talk if possible... this will help your party understand the story, especially if you are traveling with kids or teens. The ranger talk also discussed both the Euro-American and Native-American perspectives, which I much appreciated.
There is a short walking tour at the main visitor site, and another walking tour at the far end of the car tour. The car tour is a great way to get a sense of the scope of the battlefield, and the descriptions along the way are very helpful.
We spent 3 hours here, and if the park wasn't closing would have spent a bit longer. Definitely worth a stop if traveling between Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore, as we were, even if you have to go a bit out of the way. This review is the subjective opinion of a TravelPod member and not of TravelPod.com.

Off-roading with the trailer
23 photosWe were on our way early this morning but hadn't gone far when a deer ran across the road in front of us, soon to be followed by another. Cliff had just about brought us to a standstill when another deer appeared right in front of the truck. We didn't stand a chance, and unfortunately clipped his back quarter. The deer stumbled, tumbled over in the …

More Cattle Than Buildings...
8 photosAt this point in the journey, neither of us can tell you what time it is. My internal clock is misleading me on a daily basis. I awoke at an early hour (for me) and Jaclyn was beyond ecstatic. I'm not sure if her joy was based on my early rise or the smell of cinnamon buns in the lobby with the breakfast provided by the hotel. After enjoying a …

Little Bighorn Battlefield
39 photosI've been wanting to see the battlefield for 20 years and wasn't disappointed. Drive from Buffalo, WY, was predictably windy, but we arrived safe and sound around noon. Since it was Memorial Day, the park unveiled a new video they'd been working on for about 2 years with new details about the battle. The video was followed by a 45 minute …

Day 6 -Shopping and History
9 photosWe left at 8 am this morning so traffic out of the park was light. We were glad that we had chosen to return to the I-90 instead of pulling the trailer thru the scenic, winding route. Taking the interstate allowed us to cash in on some shopping time at Billings. It is so wonderful to shop in the States and have the exchange work in your favour! And …

You can see the past at the Little Bighorn River
25 photos"Little Bighorn, A Place of ReflectionThis area memorializes the U.S. Army's 7th Cavalry and the Sioux and Cheyenne in one of the Indian's last armed efforts to preserve their way of life. Here on June 25 and 26 of 1876, 263 soldiers, including Lt. Col. George A. Custer and attached personnel of the U.S. Army, died fighting several thousand Lakota …
