Loved the Ruins

Absolutely amazing to see how people were able to build and make just structures so far back in time. My boyfriend really enjoyed walking around the ruins and reading about what everything means. Definitely a must do whn visiting Honduras.

Seen better ruins

There are better Mayan ruins than here, but it is still worth while to come here en route to Guatemala.

Copan - the end of the world!?
85 photosYesterday we had a 4am pick up, said goodbye to Guatemala and headed off to our fourth and final country, Honduras. Our land crossing across the border was pretty painless and we found ourselves in Copan Ruinas and settled into a hotel by 11am! The main thing we wanted to do in Honduras (apart from fly home!) is to visit the Mayan ruin site of …

The Ruins of Copan, Honduras
48 photosWell Saturday morning March 2nd I said farewell to my family. My shuttle had arrived exactly on time and picked me up at my door. Surprising it was only me and the driver. The driver;s name was Josh and he is originally from Vermont but has been living in Xela for thirteen years. He has started a travel business and also now has a family in Xela, …

Copan Ruins
7 photos10/11/08 Day 13
We woke up early and neither of us showered. Amanda said she would get dirtier in the shower. I'm starting to understand the girls needs and take care of them. She is a picky eater because of being a vegetarian and I am also picky about my food, so I know it is hard to find food that I like as well as her, but I am … -

Maya ruins – in Copan
32 photosCopan Ruïnas is opposite to Gracias a tourism hotspot. This small village is visited by foreign and Honduran tourists because it is the only site where they have found Mayan ruins in Honduras. Other sites are found across Guatemala and Mexico. One of the larger sites is Tikal in Northern Guatemala. Copan is quite special because people say in …

Ruins, baleadas and licuados in Honduras
10 photosAfter a long travel day we cross the border into Honduras, which is my first experience crossing borders in Central America. The process is always interesting and varies from one country to the other depending on who is in charge that day :) We stamp out of Guatemala and then travel further up the road to another office to stamp into Honduras. …

Scarlet Macaws and Kittens
4 photosOur initial impressions of Hondouras are very favourable, (a view assisted no doubt by having had one of the best meals since leaving home.) Copan Ruinas is a nice little town with cobbled streets that nestles in a lush river valley. Its famous Mayan site is just a pleasant stroll from the main square and has some incredibly well preserved stone …

Copán
16 photos...
