This is a new building, which just opened in 2009. It's a museum and surrounding preserve (about 180 acres), with nature trails and bike paths. We were at the museum for an evening event so did not have a chance to explore the trails, but the museum itself is not bad at all. It has some good interactive exhibits about desert landscapes, particularly the areas about movements of tectonic plates and how erosion affects the land. There's a fun "flash flood experience" which we enjoyed. Another few rooms focus on the founding of Las Vegas and the issues surrounding water rights. The building itself is all LEAD certified and interesting. When we visited, the traveling exhibit was models of machines by Leonardo da Vinci. Then, we had our dinner event outside in the plaza, which was a gorgeous location, and the perfect evening.
