A UNESCO World Heritage site.
Despite all the Soviets attempts to eradicate religion, this monastery --and many other churches, mosques and synagogues across the former USSR--has survived and has been lovingly restored and rededicated to its former purpose.
The complex contains not only the restored building of the monastery but also a series of small museums. If touring on your own, plan at least half a day here. This is one of those places where there is so much to see that you might want to put together your own guidebook and a map just so that you don't miss any of the hidden gems.
