There's a lively atmosphere at Market Square when we wander down to get a ferry to Suomenlinna fortress. This open market has lots of stall holders, selling fresh berries, vegetables, handmade goods and jams, alongside souvenirs. Orange tents house little eateries offering a range of fresh fish, small fried fish, potatoes, vegetables and other meats cooked on large hot plates. There's also tables and chairs to sit at to enjoy your fresh, fast convenient food. It's not too expensive either. I had a salmon plate which had a large piece of well cooked fresh salmon, delicious potatoes and vegetables. My partner had beef stroganoff and potatoes. Very tasty and we enjoy the relaxed bustling setting of the port. After our meal we bought some mixed berries to enjoy back at our hotel and some homemade Lingonberry jam and wooden kuksa bowls to take home.
