This site is set deep in the jungle 50km out of Siem Reap up a hill. It's a river bed with spectacular carvings, mainly of Linga........ or penis! The culture of Angkor worshipped the fertility symbols of the Yoni (female) & Linga (male) so Kbal Spean was a very holy place. The water running over the river bed was transformed into holy water which then flowed over a small waterfall and on to Angkor. The odd thing is that Spean means the same thing in Scots as it does in Khmer.
