We went for the Full Moon Party at Hat Rin Beach in Ko Phangan for New Years and it was beyond my expectations. We had been wanting a change from our regular new years spot "GOA" and at the last minute decided to go for the Full Moon party at Hat Rin Beach in Thailand and I must say I am glad we did.
We stayed in Koh Samui and took the speed boat transfer to Ko Phangan at 8 pm. It was 700 for a round trip but I met people who had got it cheaper. No sooner did we arrive at the pier some 20 odd minutes later the party began. Right from street food to shops and tattoo artists, the place was buzzing with excitement.
There was an entry of about a 100 Baht after which we went inside and joined in the frenzy, painted ourselves with neon colors and got drunk on the legendary Vodka - Red Bull Buckets which were super strong. After that we realised that the crowd was getting bigger and so decided to stop by the liquor shop and buy liquor bottles to take to the beach just in case the bars were too crowded which was the smartest decision we made.
We picked up the alcohol, mixers and plastic glasses and walked towards Cactus Bar and the Beach. We almost got into a stampede at this point but made it to a nice spot. Once there we were glad we had picked up the alcohol as it was very crowded to keep going back and forth to the bar.
We toasted to a fabulous New Years and kept having shot after shot.
Everything was great till we had to return. We reached the pier at around 4 am but it took us an hour to get to the boat as the crowd was huge and people were drunk and getting into fights. The lines were very long. It was total chaos. I would recommend taking the speed boat transfer only 1 way that is from Koh Samui to Ko Phangan which should be roughly around 350 Baht but on the way back its better to spend 1000 Baht per head and take a private speed boat transfer transfer.
But the Overall experience was amazing and I would definitely like to go back sometime in the future.
