we spent most of our day here...or hereabouts. There are old...and I'm talking OLD churches all within these caves...from the outside you see nothing at all...just a big rock...walk inside and there is this fully domed and painted beautiful "church". technically...you are not allowed to take photos inside...I think that is because a lot of tourists do not know how to turn off their flash and a flash could over time harm these paintings....although, someone came along at some point in history and defaced almost all of the saint's faces in most of the churches....I don't think they know who did that...but, this is not a "Christian" country nor has it been for a long time....or...could have just been some wild kids that had drunk too much Raki ;-)
Anyway, i snuck a few photos on my Lumix camera that i don't know how to download here...and Thomas got a few in just one church.
I think Thomas and I were more in awe of the architectural feat than the content...we also wondered why there were so many churches in one particular place...
