Garden of the Gods is a park, located in the Colorado Springs area. Getting to it, you will definitely need to a good set of directions there. And the car is probably the only way to get to it. Someone can correct me if I am wrong there.
But regardless how you get there, any visitor to Colorado Springs, should definitely visit this place. For starters, admission is free, so that should be enough reason to visit. But luckily, it is not the only one, as this park is really spectacular on its own right, with its awesome red rock formations.
One can begin their visit at the visitor center, where there is a small natural history museum, along with a short film, telling how the rock formations formed over millions of years. The museum part is free, but the short film is not. This is also where you get nice views of the entire rock formations, seeing the different shapes, like the kissing camels. And imagine some other crazy things.
Then take a drive around the park, first to the main area for a closer look at the rock formations. Then hike on the Central Garden Trail, which is a paved trail, looping around the rock formations. This is an absolute must. It is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
Also, there is another road in the park, that takes you to Balanced Rock and other rock formations. This would make a very good photo opportunity, which I did back in 2002.
There are other hiking options, and rock climbing is allowed at certain times. Definitely contact the visitor center for information on these activities, and to pick up a map there.
Needless to say, no visit to Colorado Springs would be complete without a visit to the Garden of the Gods. And after seeing this park, I can definitely why this park got its name.
