Want to learn all about the Revolutionary War and the role Boston played? Take a day a go through the Freedom Trail and learn a good summary of the war through monuments, perserved homes and lots and lost of churchs and churchyards. We didn't use a costumed guide (they're expensive and only cover the first part of the trail anyway) so the entire day costs only $12 for a multi-entry pass (excluding lunch). Diverting off the beaten path is a good idea, take a stroll down to the wharf and spend an hour in quincy market but keep the pace up, there's lots to see and it closes at 5 p.m. You'll be sweaty and footsore by the end but a good day.
