Felt Amazing!
myranda 0 contribution Portland, Oregon, United States Aug 2, 2012
Being in the colosseum is an experience like nothing I've ever experienced before. I would highly recommend getting the tickets to jump the line. THe line was more than an hour and a half long when we arrived and with our passes, we were inside in less than 5 minutes. It is worth the money!
While inside, we could really feel the energy of the place and were transported back to Roman times in a way nothing else in the city provided us with. You have to go here. This review is the subjective opinion of a TravelPod member and not of TravelPod.com.

A Great Experience Except....
shockleytravels 2 contributions United States Jul 22, 2012
The Colosseum was wonderful historic site to visit in Rome. I would recommend this to visitors. Beware of "Greenline Tour". We had a terrible experience with this tour company. The tour guide left us there! He told us to meet up at a certain place at a certain time...we arrived 5 minutes early and he had already left....Bad Company!

Zip Right in with Roma Pass
electronicfrog 1 contribution Naperville, United States Jun 24, 2012
We were able to avoid long lines to the Colosseum with our Roma Pass which you can buy at the tourist information office next to Termini's track 24. The site is so historically significant that this is a most see for a first time visit to Rome.

When you stand outside the Colosseum you start to try and image all the gladiator fights that went on in this magnificent place. We both the Roma pass so we used the Colosseum as one of our free places and a plus you get to skip the line which was a relief.

I nearly fainted.
magicoftravel 4 contributions Salt Lake City, UT, United States Mar 14, 2012
The first time I saw the Colosseo, I had just climbed up the stairs from the metro. I wasn't expecting it to be so close and bam! There it was. It was nighttime... and the view was just breathtaking. You have to see the colosseo at night at least once while you're in Rome. So worth it.

Colosseum, un simbol al Romei.
andragheorghe 3 contributions Bucharest, Romania Dec 5, 2011

Wow, What a sight to behold
asolotraveler 6 contributions United States Oct 18, 2011
After taking the Tram and getting off at the Colossi station, only two stops from the Termini. I walked the few steps up to the main street. Right there standing in front of me was the Colosseum. My mouth few open and I stared for more than a few minutes. I was taken back to a time when I came upon "The Treasury" in Petra, Jordon. It was one of those moments that you want to take in every minute detail. I didn't' walk across the street just yet, I wanted to sit down and savor the moments by myself without all the hordes of people milling about and they were out in force. Seeing the Colosseum with my own eyes instead of in pictures was worth it. You stand there witnessing this incredible sight right in the middle of downtown Rome. After sitting on the ledge for about 20 minutes, I walked across the street and to my left where there was a little garden area. Had my picture taken and then continued walking. I was fascinated by all the people from the Tour buses. There was hundreds. And vendors galore. I took my time moving in and out of the crowds, even taking pictures of the Gladiators (who by the way want to charge you for taking a picture of them). I was glad that the day turned out sunny and bright. It made the being there all the more pleasant. I was not surprised at all the many vendors touting their wares, but I was disappointed in the prices of items and of course they wanted nothing but Euros. I was really impressed with the local artist that were lined up against the fence painting and selliing their work. Really nice paintings. I was glad that I had made the trip.

No wonder it's a must-see
travelingdiva 3 contributions Surrey, Canada May 8, 2011
Obviously the Colosseum is all about history! Approaching the Colosseum on foot was fantastic. I felt my heart rate start to race with anticipation. I have heard that it is better seen from the outside but I really am glad we went in, despite the intimidating queue. It is not difficult to imagine the excitement of the spectators packed into the stands, and the sense of dread you might experience waiting under the stadium floor for your death match. There are also interesting exhibits on the history inside. I think it was worth the admission price - I had a Roma Pass so we got to skip the line, and that was a big plus! Worth every penny just for that.

Timeless, Historical..... but a little boring
mcafee1990 8 contributions Omagh, United Kingdom Jun 28, 2009
Obviously a must see attraction in rome but i found it too commercial and pricey for what I got for my money... plus as a pub crawl rep I worked there almost everyday for 2 months doing promotional work so got really fed up with the place.... one highlight was getting waved at by Michelle Obama from one of the stone windows from the Collosseum during the Presidential visit to Rome for the G8 Summit
