Living in London I am used to my fair share of unique and wonderful museums, however in this regard the City Museum in St Louis eclipses any museum I have ever visited, anywhere. On first impressions it appears to be a museum designed entirely for children. Whilst for kids it is the ultimate playground it will only also bring out the inner youth in every adult.
Located in the building of a former shoe factory the City Museum is maze of of adventure. Attractions vary from climbing through old aircraft suspended in the air on the outside of the building to sliding down a 10 story spiral slide. For those who are less able to twist and turn through the museums many hidden passages there are also more pedestrian activities on offer, such as Art City where one can sculpt their own souvenir. It is also worth going right up to the roof top level where it possible to see panoramic views of St. Louis and if you are brave enough have a go on the restored Ferris Wheel. At $12, the City Museum is very good value for money as you are likely to spend at least 3 or 4 hours there. In fact if visiting with children it might be quite difficult to get them to leave.
In terms of what you would normally expect from museums you will not come out with a plethora of newly acquired knowledge, this is not that kind of museum. However if you want a unique fun day out with the kids or even if you are an adult who wants to experience something a little different then the City Museum is a perfect outing.
