I've been to at least 20 French cities each with their my Cathedral is bigger than yours complex, but the Strasbourg Cathedral is stunning. The tower is vertiginous, when close you have to really crank your head to absorb the scale. Look closely and you think it's Jacob's Ladder going infinitum.
The pink stone hue is sadly blackened by progress and pidgeon shit and past a certain height there are no statutes or stories. The interior is immense. You involuntarily inhale to absorb the grandeur.
We were really lucky to visit during the Christmas Day Mass. Glorious music lifted to the heavens, invasive incense curling through the incandescent light. The soloist and even the Bishop were inspiring with their benedictions.
The astrological clock is a masterful contradiction. Science and Art and Faith celebrating precision through the immutable laws of reason, mathematics, astronomy, astrology built with symbols of ancient paganism.
We were so blown away we're going back tomorrow for a 2nd look and to definitely take in the tour.
