We lived well for between 10 and 20 Euro per day buying beautiful fresh produce at the Catania central markets. They open around 8 am and are all done before 2 pm and you can buy fish, meat, cheese and fruit and veg by the tonne. The only shopping we did was for bread, butter, milk, coffee and wine. (Try the local "Nero" style - which is very good quaffing wine between 2,50 Euro and 7,50 per bottle.
If you have self-contained accommodation ( a "must" I feel in Italy) then the Catania markets will fire your imagination with master chef creations,
