The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), is a place where elite Australian athletes train. It was built in 1981 and is on 66 hectares. That about 110 football fields! There are also other parts of the AIS in other Australian cities.
It was built after after Australia didn't win any gold medals at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal in Canada.
Employing over 190 staff including 70 coaches and a large number of people who work in Sports Science and Sports Medicine.
They offer 36 sports program's in 26 sports. Over 700 scholarships are offered each year and include accommodation, food, coaching and other things
There are a number of sculptures on the site. Two of them (Gymnast and the "Wheelchair Basketballer") were moved to the site after the Sydney Olympics in 2000
